How Id Promote the Launch

If i was to promote the launch of my magazine on the Internet i would do this on the wyke website by adding its own page being able to look at
previous issues that are no longer on sale for people who may not attend wyke and would like to get more of a feel for it by reading the Wyke's
Magazine. To promote it to other people i would get students to feedback on the magazine and add the comments onto the web page of what
other students thought of the magazine and why they buy it. I would also put a photo of the front cover onto the web page to intrigue the
potential reader as a tease to make them want to see whats inside. Here is a mock-up of how the web page would look.

In the printed version of the magazine there would be competitions and puzzles tow in prizes that the reader could do that the online
version you wouldn't be able to because it is free. The benefits of engaging the audience via the website are that they get to look at
the magazine and it could persuade them to maybe want to be apart of Wyke when they are leaving school. It would help them make
their decision and it would represent Wyke College in a very good way and be very positive towards the college.

Digital Mock-Up

Market Research

                                                                    Grimsby Magazine

Language The language in this magazine has quite a sociolect towards students with headings such as "Not just a pretty face" and "booze, drugs and life." this is so the students can relate and want to read the magazine. The masthead is large, white and very bold which makes it a very dominant icon and very noticable. The main image is almost like a cartoon picture of what looks to be two students outside the college which has been edited to look like a cartoon. This shot is a full body shot (medium long shot) and is not very clear for the audience as you cant see the students face and there is no eye contact to the camera. The colour scheme is blue, white and grey which does not continue onto the contents page, the contents includes colours such as pink, white and blue. The colours are very bright on the front cover however on the contents the colours are a little two bright and isn't very helpful for the reader as it makes it hard to read. There is 1 thumbnail image on the fornt cover of a student which looks like its something to do with photography/fashion which could be included in the magazine. On the contents page there are 4 thumbnail images with one big image of some students behind it. There are no captions under these images which are a little confusing as the audience do not know what there about. There is no price or barcode shown on the front cover.
Ideology I think from looking at the front cover there are morals and messages inside the magazine about drinking and drugs. There is little information on the front cover but on the contents page there is alot of articles with pages such as dealing with divorce and being on the right track whilst at college. I think this fits in with the target audience and teenagers can be very stressed at this point of there life and may be going through lots of troubles and thoughts going on in there minds.
Institution need help on this section!
Audience The audience for this magazine in my opinion is 15-24 on the demographic side because this is the age people usually look for colleges to attend. The magazine comes across very edgey and modern with problems that teenagers can relate to.
Representation I think this magazine has intended the target audience to be teenagers and have a bit of a stereotypical view on teens as the front cover and contents mension that sex, drugs, alcohol, and problems are all in the magazine which makes me think they see teenagers as problem people.

                                                                      Retro Magazine

Language The front covers language is very sporty and gives a positive attitude towards the college. the masthead is very big and bold and dominant. This is very noticable accept that the colours are not very bright. The main picture has a good positive body language and is looking directly into the camera smiling. This represents the college as very positive. There is a notiable colour scheme of blue, white and red. There are no thumbnail images on the fron tcover however on the contents there are a few with headings which help the audience find the page if they would like to read more on the subject. there is no price or barcode which indicates that this magazine could be free? or that they dont want the audience who may not attend the college to not want to get the magazine if they have to pay.
Ideology There are no main morals in this magazine as it seems very positive and talks about the olympics. I think this college is a very sport place to be as it gives alot of positive feedback on sports such as basketball and the olympics 2011.
Institution Need help on this section!
Audience The target audience for this could be near enough any age. I dont think this magazine is jsut for students (15-24) as it talks about other topics (as shown in the contents) which could also target parents of students (25-34)
Representation I think this magazine is very positive and not stereotypical in anyway. The magazine represents the college very well as a positive place which is not only acedemic but very sporty.

                                                         Lewisham College Magazine

Language The masthead is very bold and big on the left hand corner. I like this magazine masthead as it is very dominant and notiable. I think its very presentable for the audience and easy to spot out. The main image is also very dominant and you can see what its about (dance). Its a full body shot (medium long shot) and the girl/student stands out against the black background. The subject is clearly seen by the audience and intrigues them to want to read what it is about. I would not say this has a bright colour scheme or a main theme of colours. It is very simple and a little bit boring which might put the audience/reader off purchasing this magazine. There is no thumbnail images that illustrate other articles accept one image on the contents which looks like a teacher. This does not tell the audience anything. There is also no barcode which indicates they may not want the audience who do not attend the college from buying this magazine if it is pricey.
Ideology This magazine does not include any messages or morals as this magazine is more formal then others and does not talk about sex or alcohol or drugs like the Grimsby one does.
Institution Need help on this section!
Audience The target audience for this i think is any age but in my opinion more for the demographics or ages 25-34 this is because i think its more to let the parents of the students of the college know whats going on and what the updates of the college are about.

Representation The magazine in my opinion represents a positive attitude towards the college and is bery formal. Its not stereotypical in anyway however i do think the magazine represents a little bit too much about the college then it does the students. This can be a bad idea as it doesnt intrigue the students and can be a little bit boring for them.

Sunday, 9 October 2011

My magazine front cover will include:
- A big, bold masthead title to catch the target audience (college students) eye. I'll be using an edgy font, something modern to make the front cover look more bold and outstanding.
- I will include the logo Underneath the title on the left hand corner that i am going to use for the magazine. This will be to represent the college and show the college is proud to have this magazine. It will also advertise to teenagers who are not attending that college and make them want to go there!
- A fixed theme with limited colours such as blue, black, a little bit of purple and green. This will continue on every other page to represent the magazines pride and the college. I have decided on a font for writing on the front cover however not on the masthead right now. I will be using Calbria font.
- A main image of 2-3 students from chest/shoulders above smiling outside the college. This will be to create a welcoming environment and give a positive image to the college.
My Contents Page will Include:
-In the middle, a list of page numbers and funny comical headings. This will be the page's main focus for the viewers eyes and will stand out the most.
- Surrounding the contents, there will be pictures of what are included in the magazine which are a bit of a tease to the audience and will intrigue them and want to buy the magazine to find out what it is about with funny captions. This will be persuasive to the reader because they will be funny pictures with good captions and the audience will be entertained.

Price and Publishing

The price of my magazine would be around the price of £2.50. This is because my refined target audience are teenagers who are usually on minimum wage and maybe saving for cars or clothes ect...They may not be able to afford buying magazines all the time. This college magazine would be published every term. This is because it could have a theme to it every term and it would also be something nice to read at the start of each term celebrating the college and the college's students achievements.

Target Audience

Looking at the demographics and psychographics i have decided that my target audience for the college magazine has to be 15-24 because this is the age that people go to college. At the age of 15 people are looking for colleges that they want to go to. My target audience is the social base is D-E (semi-skilled manual workers and casual labourers or unemployed) this is because people looking to go to college usually will not have any qualifications other then GCSE and they are only just learning to stand on there own two feet and get a job etc...My magazine should be readable for most value life styles such as, groups driven by needs, groups who are outer-directed, groups who are inner-directed and outer and inner directed. This is because my target audience is teenagers who are changing all the time and are still figuring out who they are which is something my magazine could talk about.

The choice of College i have decided on for my Preliminary task

The college that i have decided to feature in my preliminary task is Wyke College. This is because I can relate more to Wyke College being a current student, I also like the logo and the colours Wyke College use and i think I will have more to analyse and write about.
